....Recap: May 2011

May 2011

First off, would someone PLEASE tell time to slow down just a little? Blink and half a year is almost come and gone. I wanted this year to be one of personal growth, and I think I'm definitely getting a work out to be sure.

I learned I could try harder, I learned that sometimes MY best isn't good enough, I've learned that some decisions need to be thought through a little more throughly before they are made.

This month, my third semester at PSTCC ended badly. Something I haven't yet revealed to my parents; I'm already pretty disappointed in myself, and I can't handle anyone else being disappointed in me as well. Yes I had some adversities this semester, but I have every semester since I started. Either I've got to put up, or shut up. and I'm not ready to "shut up" just yet.

Change majors? Perhaps. I'm toying around with going back and finishing up what I started in the web design field, but haven't decided just yet.

This month, I learned patience.
This month I learned, that no matter how much I stressed and worried over a situation it ultimately wouldn't change the out come. Especially since it was out of my control.
This month, I learned that stressful situations are so much easier to handle, if you just cross bridges when you get there.

This month I learned, I really really really really really really dislike calling and forcing people to do their jobs.
This month I learned God's grace is sufficient.

This month, I sent out my resume's looking for part time work and found it. (Score!)

This month I was able to get 20 hours of over time in..which is really good considering my job position. (Double Score!)

And lastly, this month I became a new car owner.  (Triple Score!)

Next Month I hope too:
  • Exercise More  (Family Quit snickering!)
  • Eat more Vegetables
  • Drink More Water and less Soda
  • Get my Teeth looked at/fixed (yiikes)
  • Get all three dogs out of the house once a week. (Think 2- 2year olds and a 10 year old. Craziness)
June's "Splurges:
  • New Shoes!  $60.00 of awesomeness.
Alright. I'm done.

Budgets Part III

There are times I feel old beyond my years.
Why is a 21 year old worrying about budgets?
*Says the girl who thinks cleaning is fun*

I've posted before about the struggle budgeting is for me before. Well, I should say "the struggle controlling the impulsive shopper, in me is." So unless I have money to blow (which never happens) I avoid places such as: Bookstores, Target, Old Navy, Ross, Kohl's, Petsmart etc.. unless I have money to blow, or just need to do some Therapy shopping.

There are times you just need the fun of bringing home something new, you know what mean?

But I digress.

After the serious failure of the last couple of months, and the purchase of a new (for me) car in my near future, and hearing someone-of-influence-in-my-life, say incredulously "What in the world are you doing with your money!?" (oh I don't know spending it?)  My determination to come in way UNDER budget this month is at an all time high.

So I spent days going over my shopping lists,Checking and double checking my house to make sure I wasn't over buying. I also wanted to purchase some extra things, so I had to create a budget for that; which meant taking away from other things, but it worked our pretty well in the end. Anyway, my March Budget ended up with these categories:
  • Food
  • General Items (Decreased by $50)
  • Home Decor
  • Tithe
  • Gas (increased by $10)
  • Pets
  • Fast Food (Decreased by $10)
  • Education (aka Books which also decreased by $10)
  • Savings (aka whatever's leftover)
  • Plus all the usual bills (cell phone,insurance.. yada)
On your mark...get set.....GO!

Day 2
Soooo I was really proud of myself Tuesday. I priced shopped everything to the inth degree, found low to free shipping on everything I bought online (from flashlights to dog food), and had stayed well below my budget food wise. However, I didn't factor one small detail  into my purchases. Shipping time. While most of my supplies could arrive whenever...I quickly discovered I was completely out of Rob's food. Rob's very expensive food. Think $16.99 for 4lbs of dog food. Needless to say, we'll be changing foods as soon as I can get the "A-OK"..as much as I hate to feed "my" dog that......purinaonestuff.. my budget needs it.

Anywhooo....

When I went to check the order status, I just got a "Order is being being packaged" notification with no indication when it would leave, much less arrive at my house. So I decided I could probably afford a small bag, to tied him over, that way I didn't run the risk of giving him the runs, by letting him eat my other dog's food. So after our trip to the vet yesterday, (Where I impulsively purchased one of these amazing candles, a must have if you have a pet you're potty training, but NOT in the budget) we stopped by Petsmart.

Yes the Petsmart that is on my list of "NO-GO" places.Cause I can't help but by more treats or toys. Sure enough, an hour later ( you can't go anywhere fast with a 9week old puppy, wearing a yellow jacket stating: FUTURE GUIDE DOG on it. Especially if he doesn't like to stay in the shopping cart you placed him in.) we walked about $40 poorer, with dog food, a new toy, bitter apple spray and some treats..and a very happy puppy.

Then today, I get online and see...our food is scheduled to arrive at my door.......TODAY.

Waaaaah

He totally could have survived for one day on my pet dog's food. Oh well. Live and learn.

So I kinda blew in the pet category this month. I'm so annoyed with myself.

However, I did stay way under budget in my other categories, which gave me a little cushioning in my spending indiscretion.

So. Yay Me!
And Better luck next month.

I am Blessed.

I'm generally a thankful person.
Its something I know I'm supposed to be.
Thankful for my family, friends, heat, clothing, warmth....
But today it hit me.
I don't know if it was the homeless man standing in 30 degree weather with just a sign...
Or maybe it was walking from my warm car, in my warm clothes, to my equally warm house....
Or perhaps it was the hauling of bag, after bag full of food into my house..
But as I looked around I couldn't help but think.....
I am blessed.
There are so many places or situations I could be in at this moment, but I have been given the presence of mind to make good decisions, to look at others mistakes and learn from them... to lead a productive life....
Reguardless of how this year turns out, I have what I need.
And for that I am deeply thankful.

Winter Break: Day 2

Oh Christmas. I time to give and get.
A time for friends and Family.
A time for crowds, traffic and stress.

Today I decided I probably should get started on my Christmas shopping, seeing how I only have a week until the "big day." Christmas is not a overly celebrated holiday in our house, though we do exchange gifts to the sounds of our household "grinch" grumbling in the background. We love that person dearly, and tune them out for the most part.

When we were younger, my mother would take us out on Christmas Eve, and give us a set amount of money to spend on our siblings. We typically hit up Wal-Mart or the Dollar Tree, but had a blast trying to hid our gifts from each other. Wrapping the presents was a hilarious event as well attempted to find separate areas of the house to wrap them in. Now that two of us have jobs, and the others have a little extra "money" now that we are out of the picture, the gifts have become a little more thoughtful.

I love the Holiday time, as its one of the few times of the year, that is primarily focused on family, and togetherness, and despite the crowded stores, malls and streets, I enjoy trying to find things that will bring a smile to my family's face. Pompei and I braved the retail scene today and visited over 12 different stores in an attempt to find that one "thing" to light one my family this year. Oh I know, the best gift is being together, but lets be real here. We all like getting gifts, and we all (should) like giving.  I'll admit, I had a small list of things I wanted to get my self (brown boots).
While the crowds and traffic, wasn't all too bad, (in the area of town I was) I was sorely disappointed only to find gifts for one person. One. Sigh. Had I know that i would stayed home and bought stuff off the internet. Would have saved my legs a lot of work..However I don't regret all the socialization Pompei got today. He got a new bed and some toys out of the deal, as well as one of the employees of a clothing store, to sit on the floor with him in her lap for a little while. (I know, I know, but  it was the end of the day, he needed some relief) Despite his "bouncyness" at home, put that yellow vest on him, and he's a completely different dog.

Now that we're home, he's been knocked out. So i would deem this shopping trip a success.

On another note, I don't think the fact that I'm out of school has completely sunk in just yet. I guess I've gotten so used to waiting on the "other shoe to drop" that I'm afraid to revel in my freedom. I've got to get out of that mindset!! Anyway here's to getting my shopping done from the comfort of my own home!
I LOVE YOU AMAZON!!!!!

Update: The Other Shoe - So the other shoe, that dropped, would be PSTCC not letting me see my grades, because they don't have the transcripts back when I attended HCC back in NC, for ONE SEMSESTER. ONE. My frustration knows no bounds. I want to go to school, no NEED to go to school, but man I'm so tired of this I don't know what to do! *screams*
Oh I know. I'm going to bed, and never getting out again.

Oh Help!

This is a crisis. Here are four pairs of boots... SIX pairs of boots and I only have moneys (is that a word?) for two!?!? *sobs* What's a girl to do? Ask her blogging/Facebook/Twitter friends for help of course!

If you were buying boots, and these were the only options (heh, I know all tastes don't match mine) you had.....which one or two would you get!?

{5- Yoko Soho}

Seriously the names they come up with!?

I < 3 Sam's Club

I am the oldest of six.
Sam's Club is our number one shopping center.
So naturally, now that I'm on my own, I do what I'm used to doing.
So I went and signed up for a membership and because I was a college student, they gave me a $10 or $15 gift card! Since then I have learned I really do not need 300 pizza roles, or bulk sized boxes of trail mix bars... I do need them for other things such as bread! I'm extremely picky about my bread, so I'm happy that Sam's sells the bread I like and I'll order my photos through them...and pick up supplies for dear ol' mom.

In other words I get my moneys worth.

And they just keep me coming back.
How you ask?
Oh..another $15 gift card came my way today, when I renewed my membership.....
I LOVE YOU SAM's CLUB!!!

March 19, 2010

"The best part of waking up is cuddling with your pup!"
(Sung to the tune of the "that coffee commercial"...which everyone that is)
This morning start off soo much better than yesterday..I felt as if I'd gotten some sleep, spent about 15 minutes on the floor cuddling with my puppies, talking to God, and trying to convince myself to get ready for school.

I made to class in only about five minutes late, which completely messes up my record for always being on time; to that class.

Hey it's the only thing I can claim to be on time for…

After class Pompei and I walked around the school track in the beautiful 60 degree weather. Got a little shopping in..

Hobby Lobby ROCKS Y'ALL!

Ate some lunch, then went and played in a field until it was time for his shots.

Got those done, came home and set up "camp" (aka laptop, blanket, cell phone, and camera) in the middle of the yard, in the sunniest spot and let the dogs play for a while.

Picked the dog bed I'd washed from my parent's house (They have a ginourmous front loader washing machine that I love, because it doesn't have an agitator that messes up the beds)

Made Dinner, gave the dog their food in interactive toys..

And have been slogging through my Google reader. But people keep updating!
STOP IN THE NAME OF ME I SAY!

Until I finish anyway.

*sigh*

I must go work on my paper.

March 2

Dear March,
What part of "LOTS OF SUNSHINE" did you not understand? It was very disappointing to wake up this morning, to snow flurries/drizzle coming out of the sky; which did not improve my mood.
I was already way late for work by the time my alarm clock did not went off. Thankfully I have an understanding boss as I rushed in 30 minutes late.

Dear 2010,
What is up with all the gray and rain? I don't think there has been a day YET that I've been able to walk into class with sunshine, and blue skies. Do you know how hard it is to be motivated to do anything with this weather??

Dear Sociology Teacher,
I can completely understand why you don't like lecturing, on groups in society. The film you showed, really just confirmed a lot of things about human nature. Good people can turn evil, just because someone else told them to do something. But could you have picked a less...disturbing video? I mean yeah even watching people fake shock someone was unnerving but the "McDonalds Hoax"  and the other thing, which I don't want to remember was..just..wow. I felt nausea for at hours after I left, which forced me to go to Target. If you had NOT shown the video, I would probably be $70 richer at this moment. It also just goes to show you, you really don't want to know what people are thinking.

Dear Target,
I love you. Thank you for having your picture frames on sale, my room is starting to come together. Now if you would only put your bed sets on sale, that would be totally awesome.Oh yeah, and how could I forget the scarves for only $2.50 each. !?! I probably should return them...but that won't happen.

2.13.2010

First Night

Almost done, only a lot of little stuff left to move, but I officially stayed in my new house for the first time last night. The mildew smell was a little difficult to get by, but we survived..

Almost.

I now pity the Princess in the Princess in the Pea. Sleeping on two mattresses was HOR-RI-BLE. My back hurt so badly when I got up this morning. I can't imagine what it would have felt like with a pea on top of a 100 or so mattresses. LOL!

I am a homebody. While I don't dislike traveling, I really dislike traveling. Especially if it means leaving my dogs. Well ok I take that back, I don't mind leaving them if I know they are in good hands, last year during our trip to Florida, I was miserable the entire time, knowing my dogs were at home alone. Since then I'll board them, and have been fine, knowing someone was there with them 24/7.

But I digress.

Being a  homebody, even something as simple as changing houses is a little mentally ......traumatic....Now I'm having to create a new sense of normal in this place. Its a creakier house It was a little difficult to get to sleep, one being hyped up on caffeine didn't help my energy level, so i cleaned and put stuff away for at least an hour or so after coming in.

Than finally settled the dogs and attempted sleep. Pompei was crated in the "Dog Room" and Bubbles and Texas were in bed with me. (Guide dog puppies are not allowed on the furniture)
Didn't wake up until my alarm went off at 7AM. ON a SATURDAY.

And of course that means Bubbles has to get up, walk around the room, and go to the door to be let out. Me opening the bedroom door awakens Pompei all the way on the other side of the house, and he starts screaming. Of course Texas can't just stay in bed with all the excitment going on outside, and hops up and runs out the door with the gang.

We are doing some serious door-waiting-work with these guys, as I just can't have them doing the mad dash.

So that happened, and I herd everyone back into my room, to see if I can catch at least one more hour of sleep. Thankfully everyone settled back down quickly..and Pompei didn't destroy anything..(that I know of) and I woke up two hours later with a the previously mentioned back ache.

Since my refrigorater is STILL in my other house, I fed the dogs and wandered aimlessly around trying to figure out WHERE to start in this mess.

I eventually got dressed, got my bed room squared away, tackled the bathroom, took the dogs on another potty break; more wandering before going back to my house to check my email and such like.

Spent about two hours cleaning over there and surfing the net before doing some more hauling, taking and apart, and putting together, with the help of my ginormous puppy.

Somewhere during this time I realized I could get my parents wireless on my work laptop. Ka-ChINg! (Another $50 stays in my bank)

NOt much got done after that....the internet is seriously distracting to me.

I finally pried myself away, and loaded Pompsters into the car, and we did some shopping; wore him out got something to eat and came back home.

Now I'm just trying to keep from having to go to bed. I may just sleep on the bed in my office (eeeek that is so fun to say hee hee) ...we'll see.

Valentines day? Don't really care overly much about it; that's one Holiday my future husband will not have to worry about with me. Maybe my friends and I will go out to eat after Church.

Speaking friends, two of them will actually be moving into my old place, so we'll be neighbors! Woot!

1.18.2010

...But its a Holiday!

Its Monday! And we survived, with all limbs intact and no drama! A good day if I do say so myself. I spent most of it cleaning, packing and moving stuff to my new place! Yess that's right I am leaving my "cozy" "little" 50+ year old house...for something only 20yo instead..heh.

But it is an upgrade..because its at least set up NORmAl! If I've learned anything in 2009, it was to be content in whatever state I found myself in, and I was. Yes this house was small, and all the floors slanted, and it only has one closet, and has ZERO storage space, hideous carpet.....etc..etc..

 Issues in other words.

But I somehow made it comfortable, livable, and I was more than happy with it! I was finally on my own how could I not be!?

But I can move on. *phew*

This is not to say "new' house doesn't have some issues as well.. the pipes burst over the winter freeze, so I'm without water until it is repaired, and the last tenants had their own stove, so I'm looking another one. My "landlords" would probably purchase one for me, but I'd like this one to be mine, so the next move, we can already have that in place!

BUUT it has central heat!! No more running heaters in every room of the house!! AAahh I'm so excited about that. Probably overly so but for me, its the little things that count!

The dogs will also get their own room, you laugh now, but these crates are just not pretty and take up a LOT of room! Its nice to get them out of the main sight. Looking for foam/rubber mats for that room, to help bring down my landlords blood pressure about having the dogs in the house. My dogs are housebroken, but accidents do occur occasionally. (Hence why they are called "accidents")

And hopefully I won't have to pay for internet anymore, if I can get a wireless adapter for my computer, it will allow me to pick up my parents wireless from up the hill.

Anyway I spent a lot of my day shuffling things. I decided not to pack boxes, its  pointless since I'm moving across the yard. This way I can go ahead and set things up like I want too.

I'm hoping I can get everything done between this week and next, or at least before the heavy homework loads start. There is NO way I can study if my house is only half put together. *Neat Freak*

I've pretty much come to the end of the things I can move. So while I was going stir crazy, I decided to go see if I could scare up something to eat, and take Pompei on an outing.

So we hit up the mall, checked out some shops, got a couple of pretzels from Auntie Anne's (if you don't have one of these in your town, you are TOTALLY missing out on the best pretzels in the WORLD!)

Than headed home, so I could get ready for choir practice. Tomorrow back to the grind of work and school.

Hoping you all had a great MLK day!

Christmas Eve

Ok Christmas is a really bad Holiday for me. I think I spent the same amount of stuff for myself as I have for others...(But how can you resist these shoes?! And on clearance at that!!)

Partial work day for me, had to help out at the kennels, and met with my boss. After that Victoria and I finished up our Christmas Shopping, and headed home, to relax. (Whatever that is)Later on our family will get togethor for our dinner...and probably games...

Plans for tomorrow? Do absolutely nothing, open gifts, and probably go to a friends house for dinner.

--101 Update--

#93. Purchase Plant

So as I was in Wal-Mart the other day, and happened to walk through the garden center. Being the impulse buyer that I am, I just HAD to see what they had available.
I think they add a nice touch to my home!? Just need to find some nice planters, cause the purple totally does NOT go.

Looking Ahead

Last week was.....to say the least interesting, I spent most of stressed out, but I survived.

Friday night,I was able to relax and put different situations out of my mind for a time, and enjoying hanging out and doing simple things like, browsing through a book sale, or going out to eat, and just talking. Its always fun to get three girls (& a puppy) high on sugar together.  :)) But I enjoying being able to hang out with other people who know or have been where I have. For the last couple of years I was without that (friends moving out of town) and it is SUCH a relief to be able to relay something and have someone who can relate.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I cannot believe that this year is almost over with. One more month and 2009 is history; I still can't get over how quickly time started moving once I hit my teen years.

Of course in other cases it really can't move fast enough.

But anyway lately  I've spent a lot of time preparing myself mentally for next year; First thing is getting registered for classes again. I will admit to being nervous about going and doing that.

While I'm no longer as shy as I used to be, it is not an easy task for me dive into something not knowing what to do. Does that make sense?

My plans are to Major in Photography, and Minor in Web Design....I do look forward to going to school again,as well as eager to complete it already!!

I am so looking forward to taking classes on photography; my previous college sent my transcripts and I will probably go and register this week  for at least 3 classes. We'll have to see...I can't wait!

10/12/09 - Goals Update

This weeks Goals:

  • Go to bed early  - Ok this would be #FAIL
  • Get up early (Twice Counts)
  • Walk dogs before work  (I did this TWICE! YAY ME!!)
  • Make Grocery list for Month
  • Call potential Foster family  (Boss gave this fam to another trainer. yay)
  • Keep up my daily photos (SO Proud of myself, I have a photo for everyday!)
  • Laundry ( Got that knocked out Tuesday)
  • Drink Water ...daily #FAIL

Week 2 of my new schedule, and I'm literally on the verge of exhaustion.

Ok its not THAT bad, but I can foresee that in the near future. My week was...busy, I started off great, and slowed as is my norm. I did wake up ...earlier on two occasions this week, and found out how NICE it is to actually get out of the house on time, and know I've gotten everything I needed to get done DONe!

"It would defiantly be a benefit for me to go to bed earlier, but I find that I have a hard time prying myself out of bed regardless how much sleep I've gotten."

This week the weather has taken a turn for the worse..I think someone forgot to remind Winter what day it started, cause WOW has it be COLD! Wednesday and Thursday it pretty much rained ALL DAY without stop. Which of course those were the two days I was out at the Kennels. And of course I only had a thin jacket, and sneakers that were like wearing sponges.

It was miserable. If I have any extra money left from this paycheck, first stop will be a nice rain/winter coat, and those oh-so-adorable rain boots.

Speaking of clothing, I was looking through my closet this morning, and was nearly knocked out the scream. It was pretty garbled but I managed to make out " You Need More or New Clothes" I can't figure out which one exactly. But the essences was clear. My winter clothes selection is sorely lacking...TIME TO GO SHOPPING!!!!!

Whenever I can find the time.....and money for that matter.

Tomorrow Long day at the kennels...cleaning, puppies coming and going with volunteers, than a two hour drive to pick up a poodle pup I'll be baby-sitting for a week... Fun Times!

Shopping

I'm not one who is a shopper...
I don't go out and just randomly by stuff...often anyways.
I'd rather research it online, and see if I can buy it there, if not I'll go get it from the store with the best deal.
Not yesterday!!
My parents are out of town, and I had news year day off.....
So I did what apparently everyone else in town did.
I went shopping!!!

The dogs of course went with me....

I am NOT a good impulse buyer..
I tried really hard to be, but in the end I wound up going right back in the store and returning things. And going to a different store and buying it at a lower price.

But I was able to get somethings that I wanted from the instant I saw them.
Have I mentioned I love Target??

A Hot Pink Napkin holder,Silver with Green handals that have silver dots on them, and a table runner with lots of colorsSomethings for "my" house, I love the bright cherry colors of the Garden Party set, and am buying bits and pieces as I can afford it. So I have the Table Runner, Napkin Holder and Silverware.
I'm a sucker for books.....
Bubbles and Texas NEEDED some sweatshirts...
FOR REAL!!!
So I'm a sucker for them...
God help me when I have kids.

ROFL!

Planning Stage

I was able to talk to my mom, more about whats going to happen, and the question that keeps coming back up is this:
"Will I move back in with my family...when we buy another house."
I really can't give an honest answer to that just yet...I do love my family, but I think once I get a taste of "freedom" it will be hard to move back. Granted that house is stinky enough to force me out. Free room and board is still hard to beat!

With those thoughts in mind I have scaled my shopping lists down greatly. Instead of buying/picking up a couch, I will probably settle for a Paupsan Chair, no coffee tables, or couch tables just yet either...or lamps for that matter. Not that had planned for all of that...but I'm just saying. So my thought is, we'll just treat this like a over-sized, slanted floored, dorm room....with a kitchen.

Today I'm going "bathroom" shopping, hopefully at some thrift stores and Target.
After I go to the bank and get ANOTHER card ordered.
