Remember that one time..?

1.) Share a story about a stray you took in or an animal you once rescued.

This is a story about a dog named Zipper. Zipper is the one and only dog I have fostered, well the only dog I've fostered to be someone's pet. My regular readers know I spend 99.9% of my time raising guide dogs for the blind.

Anyway, Zipper was not planned. I already had a puppy in training and saw no reason to add to my school, work, train and socialize puppy load. But my neighbors had other plans.

It was around 10:00pm on Monday evening, when I heard a knock on my front door. This was strange because the back door of my house, faces the street/driveway, so most people come to that door, not to mention most people knocking on the door at that time of night, were people I knew, so after corralling my vicious watch dog (read: Miniature Dachshund)

I opened the door with my Lab/Golden mix in tow. I was surprised to see my scruffy neighbor and his granddaughter on my porch, holding a very nervous chihuahua mix. Over the next few minutes I got the story. Apparently the girls father didn't want her to have a dog, and was threatening to kill it if they didn't get rid of it that.night. After trying to give them some options they could  try, I realized they didn't want to leave my house with the dog in tow. I, of course, being the only logical person to take her.

I was admittedly between a rock and hard place, I didn't want to bring some un-known dog into my house,  but I didn't want her to die either. She was a little thing, I reasoned, so what could it hurt? I would contact some rescue groups, and have her gone by the end of the week.  Simple. So I agreed to find the dog a home.

Worst. Decision. Of Life.

It was worth it just to see the look on my roommates face when I told her I'd gotten her a new dog. (My roommate isn't a dog lover, she tolerated my dogs) Horrified barely describes it.

Needless to say, I couldn't find a rescue group that would take her off my hands.."We usually have our people foster dogs they find.."  I didn't want to do the shelter route, as I knew that would prohibit me from adopting there in the future. So we wound up fostering her.

The next three months of my life were pure torture.
Zipper had no obedience training
Zipper had no potty training
Zipper had no leash skills
Zipper had no crate training
Zipper had no boundries (no fence too high or too low could stop her)
Zipper had dog-to-dog issues

The first four items on that list, weren't bad at all, in fact the marjoirty of the dogs I get, have none of these skillz. Zipper was a quick study when it came to clicker training, she accepted crating easily and learned some leash skills.  However the straw that broke the camel's back was the last two items. She could get over/under any obstacle, and was fast about it. She also was very aggressive towards my dogs. Which meant  she had to stay separated from my dogs, 80% of the time. That. was tough my friends.

The week before Zips found her forever home, I called the rescue and told them a couple of things. First I was not placing this dog with a family that had multiple dogs (we had a potential family who wanted her but they had three other dogs) and that she was going to need to leave my house ASAP. My dogs couldn't take it any more. She attacked on of my sleeping dachshunds, and was getting into fights with my other female at least several times a day (before I placed her on mandatory separation)  My roommate was almost living at her parents house and I was going crazy.

Thankfully within a week of that ultimatum being issued, a lovely young lady contacted me, that fit the bill perfectly. I explained to her all of Zipper's issues, and she was very positive about working with her on them.

It was love at first sight (for her and Zipper) and they rode off happily into the sunset.

Zipper gets to go to work with her new Momma, has added a Daddy and brother and is living the good life.

Will I foster again?

Probably.

But I WILL.NEVER. Take in a dog like that again.

The End.

Some things.. YODO (You only do once..) :)

Wordy Wednesday

{Zipper snoozing on top of my mouse pad, on my desk}
I am not a morning person, I do not like mornings, early or late, in fact if we could just skip mornings permanently I would probably be a very pleasant person, right out of bed.
This is not to say that I'm not a pleasant person in the morning, but that's because I'm not talking to you and you're not talking to me. Believe me, dear roommate is cheerfully wishing me good morning, while I steadfastly ignore her very existence.
How ever my family does not help contribute to the well being of my  morning state, by banging on the door at 8AM,demanding I get my camera, to take the photo of a DEAD RABBIT THE KILLED. I opened my curtains to see what he was yelling about, and immediately got back in bed. Seriously? How rude is it too wake up and see a dead rabbit hanging outside your window?

I got another hour or two of sleep in before, Zipper's high pitched squeals made that impossible. Speaking of Zipper, I have since come to the realization, the I cannot handle high energy dogs. And I actually think its more of, I can't handle them if they come too me like that..if I get them as puppies i Have more time to get used to the quirks of their nature, where starting out like that is very stressful.

So having this dog back in my house again, has caused some tensions between me and...her... Its very easy to get frustrated with her..which makes training her all the harder. Especially since she's not a dog to look before she'll leap. Her favorite thing, is for me too put her on leash, walk outside and watch her run FULL TILT to the end of the leash, and get flipped on her back.

I've given up being worried about her physical state as she'll get up, shake herself off. And DO IT AGAIN.  I hope her future family can get their money together quickly and complete this adoption already!

In other news, I am once again wondering if I am the only person in the world, that can get themselves into debt without spending any money. Now that my school has been paid for, the IRS pops up with a letter saying I owe them money....and then my secondary bank messages me, that I have overdrawn the account and being charged .. oh $40 on top of the money I over drafted. Which is about $100 total.  Total Debt Amount = $300. I know, I know, I KNOW.
Its not that much, but have ya SEEN my bank account lately?!?

Thank goodness I started budgeting to have extra money!

I think I can officially say also, that my lovely HTC Hero with Google, is officially back to working order.....15 minutes later...*snap* I just jinxed myself of course, and my phone is back too its new platonic, unresponsive state... Heres to hoping Sprint will be kind too me...or that I still have some sort of warranty on my phone. Life without a cell phone is stressful.

.....And I'm Out

Summer Week 6

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters
I know...its Tuesday, but I started on Monday? Does that count?

[1]Weekend: Not amazing at all, but I got a lot of great photo shoot opportunities. A family at our church decided to give all four of their children a birthday party at one time, verses four times during the year. Since they are all under four, they didn't care. :)

[2] Officially fostering the little dog from the last post. We're calling her Zipper now I believe...we all seem to have many different names for her.

[3] Yay for overtime money finally coming in! Shopping Trip anyone? For Groceries?

[4] Trying to hide my disappointment in skipping our yearly trip to Lakeland Florida. But I'll be going back down for a friends wedding (who know that I think about it, I'm supposed to be shooting their engagement pictures...#iforgot) and our family will use our free tickets to Disney at that time. Pray for me. I'll have to ride with my family down there, I will need all the prayers I can get.
Don't take that wrong, I love my family but ...but.. BUT..... maybe we can we rent two cars or something like that.... you just got to understand. Lets say our target is too leave at 10:00am - more than likely we'll wind up leaving at 12:00pm or 1:00pm or even the NEXT DAY. Let's just say my patience doesn't extend that far. See my blood pressure is rising just THINKING about it. {God if you love me....}

[5] I would really like to buy a car for my birthday. That is my goal now. And perhaps I can drive "brandspankingnewcar" to FL. That would be awesome.

[6] Craiglist pulled my ad for my camera. Grr. Oh well I'm finding I"m actually needing the camera right now.

[7] I'm loving the blogger updates! Sa-Wheet!

[8] Birthday Part Photos:

[9] The theme was Bubbles

[10] Yep he is inside that Bubble :)

[11] They are giving me some cheeses.

[12] Mmmmmmmm

[13] Did I mention VBS started yesterday?

[14] My neighbors - whom I love despite their thieving ways.!

Well let much just say this. My summer is official un-boringinged.
And you can read about the whole story on the dogs blog.
Count them 1, 2, 3, 4 little doggies... AH AH AH AH.
I'm quoting Seaseme Street.
