Monday Musing

Dropping my photojournalism class was one of the best decision I've made this year. Hands down. The whole taking-classes-this-semester-decision is debatable, as well as taking on another puppy..but what's done is done and we just have to plow through those, but having a lighter course load has been, well, relieving.

So now my Math class get to be the hardest thing on my plate. According to...well everyone...Statistics is Fun, and everyone LOOVED statistic. Which is good, and to be honest..once I get the formula's, I kind of like it too. However the way this course is set up is extremely overwhelming for me.
My Calculater...taken with my point and shoot that I recently un-earthed.
First we have the online component that our teacher set up.
  • Homework we don't have to turn in.
  • Homework we DO have to turn in.
  • Her chapter notes
  • Power point presentation
  • Formula notes (at least six pages worth)
  • Calculator Instructions
  • Activity Keys
Then we have the online component that comes with the book which includes:
  • Video Presentations
  • Tracked Exercises
  • The Books exercises that aren't tracked (graded)
  • Section Homework
  • Chapter Homework
  • Chapter Tests & Quizzes
  • Instant feedback and step by step instructions through problems.
And at least a couple of other things, I haven't even begun to try.

Is it just me or is all that information really overwhelming? Each week, I have decide which direction I'm going to go in. Focus on what my teacher wants, or get instant feed back. I'm the type of person, if I'm going to get it, I've got to do it over, and over, and over to solidify it in my brain. I've got to understand it inside out and upside down. I have to know what makes it work. Unfortunately I don't have time to do that. By the time I "get it" I've got HOURS to complete the assignment and turn it in.  Enter Stress.

Oh. And don't get me started on text book terminology.
The  rare event rule for inferential statistics states, that if under a given assumption, the probability of a particular observed event is extremely small, conclude that the assumption is probably not correct.
Sure I know, they have to sound smart (even if they also have no clue what they just said), i mean I do it too. However I do understand that sometimes it depends on the way you think. Could they not have just written:
The rare event rule for (goes to look up what inferential means..ouch yeah we'll keep the word) inferential statistics state, that if the probability of the observed event is small, the, it would be a good bet to assume the prior assumption is not correct.
I realize that I might have just said something complete different, but ....at least I understand it..right???

But I digress. As usual. Most of the time, I go with the book's online component. It's been a life saver, having an actual human speaking in ENGLISH, has been unbelievably helpful. But it does take valuable time away from working on the homework I have to turn in.  Speaking of homework, I'd put a LOT of work into this week's problems, as it was finally something I could "get" without using too many brain cells. It was due today, so I was all kinds of proud of myself for getting it don early.

However, it wasn't until I'd been home for a couple of hours, when I realized I'd saved the file to my WORK computer. You.HAVE.GOT.to.be.kidding.me. Not to mention I'd also left the computer software we use in said work computer.

I panicked for a couple of hours, trying to figure out how I was going to do all these problems without the afore mentioned software, and started re-doing all my work. However i quickly discovered I could download the software from the internet and a quick glance at my class website revealed...my teacher had EXTENDED the deadline!

Hallelujah was the only thing I could think!!

Anyway, now that i have some extra time...I really should be studying..

TTFN!

Nov.6: Homework

10 Reasons I can't do Homework at Home
  1. My Computer is here.
  2. My Dogs are here.
  3. My Roommate is here
  4. My neighbors/friends/roommates niece are here
  5. There is food here.
  6. There is ALWAYS something to clean here.
  7. My Bed is here.
  8. The sunshine can call to me, and I can respond here.
  9. (or) The cold forces me to stay inside and burying under my blankets.
  10. My procrastination is harder to resist here.
*Sigh* I do try, but its almost impossible. For REAL! I miss my study groups at Panera Bread every Friday.

P.S. GO VOLS!!!!! 50-14 over Memphis!!

Weekly Goal

Ok just as a warning, my head is all over the place.
  • Goals
This week’s goals, I haven’t done made any weekly goals for myself in a while, and really need to get back into doing so. So for this week, my goals are to:  1.) Go to bed early 2.) Drink Less Caffeine 3.) Be more prepared.  Short and simple.
I was able to accomplish 1 & 2 last week, so I’m confident I can do it this week. Boy did I not realize how my caffeine habit (1-2 bottles daily) was affecting my mental well being. I was actually tired enough to go to bed by 10:30pm…and amazingly enough..I felt great when my alarm went off at 6:45AM. Why didn’t anyone tell me about this before!?
  • School
Today is officially my last day of summer. I think I was sadder about this fact last Friday than I am now; which is progress.. Truthfully I feel the most unprepared about this semester than ever, but at is going to tackle it with all I have.  With mostly evening classes, I have a little more time to get things together during the day, which is a bit of a relief. HR emailed my instructors about Pompeii’s presence in their class, so things should be smooth sailing from here… Thursday is the only day I’m worried about with him…He’s going to have 7 hours crate while I’m at work 10 minutes of outside time, before we are heading out to my first class. (1.5 hours) then dashing for class number 2 (3 hours) so. What ta do what ta do. We’ll figure out something. Also have to get into the habit of checking my school email more often. It’s a piece of junk so I can’t set it up to forward stuff to my main addy, so I’m stuck going to the schools website, click on the link for webmail, clicking another link for student mail, typing in my username and password and then finally logging into my email account.
  • Work
New schedule at work as well, I was able to ask and receive a few more hours at work, which I am ever so grateful for, but at the same time, it does mean that I’ll have be here at 8am every day. I hate getting up that early, but I think it will be good for me to have that consistency.
  • Home
Well beside the news of roomies engagement, no dates just yet they are playing it by ear. (which is fine with me cause I’m not eager to loose her) we finally got a STOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know, I know for those of you who have these lovely appliances and never have been without them..well you just don’t understand. I moved into the ‘new place’ in April. Previous renters took “their” stove with them and while there are perks of renting from your parents…….sometimes you can get overlooked just as easily. However someone from our church happened to find a BRAND NEW stove in the scratch and dent section for like $200 and brought it over for us! Yesterday my dad and I installed it and we’re good to go. Its like a whole new world has opened up! I can like…COOk! No more Toaster Oven or hot plate meals! Roomie did attempt to make some muffins…but forgot them and burnt em’ up first thing. Oh well it’s been a while. J
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

I have no words...

I really don't.
I am sooooo tired.
All I've done today was write, and not blog post but this paper that I need to turn in Monday.
I've done more than that, but it FEELS as if all I've done, was read, write, cite and edit.
I am so not confident in this paper, but I'm just sooooo tired of working on it.
I'm really past caring what the grade is.
S'what I get for procrastinating.
I can't help it. REALLY.

Um.......

Actually I've gotten quite a lot of other homework done.
C,R, their niece, mother and I went too see a play last night.
Anyone read Ramona Quimby when they were younger?
This play was based off the first book in the series Beverly Clearly wrote.
It was very cute, and I got in free!
Despite feeling achy I had fun.

Today I was sort of stuck at home, since my dad and sister took the car, and then C left on some long shopping venture, then H & R both took off, which left my parents van...(15 passenger) and I HATE driving that boat. So the dogs and I spent lots of time between outside and in. I do like being able to do homework outside, its just so much more fun that way.

I attempted to recreate O'Charley's Loaded Baked Potato soup....but something back fired, I have this thing against following recipes to the letter..and well lets just say sometimes its good to follow recipes.
I'll try it again later.

C brought one of her co-workers home, to help her paint our kitchen. They got everything turn apart, and will start painting next week. We agreed to let her redo the kitchen, with help from me of course, and I'll take care of the bathroom makeover..and we'll both work on the living room.

I'm going to go get something to eat, so I'll leave you guys with some photos from this week:
