Mike Brown [My Thoughts]

I try not to talk about these sorts of things too much, because it just starts fights, name calling and a lot of childish behavior. But I do want to say this:

Last night the grand jury decided not to indite the police officer involved in the shooting of Mike Brown. Right or Wrong that's the decision they made. We HAVE to live with that.

Of course my Facebook and twitter feed were filled with people either bemoaning or celebrating. (Personally I think celebrating someones death is highly insensitive regardless of the situation. Regardless whether it was self-defense or an act of violence, one human still shot and killed another.) Don't get me wrong, when I first heard about it was saddened, and deeply disturbed .... but as time went on, and more information started coming out, my mind started to change. Yes I know racism still is alive and well, but I'm also smart enough to look at the big picture, and here's what I see.
  • 200lb 18-year-old Kid/Man/adult WHATEVER that robbed a store.
  • 1 lone police officer who came upon the suspect
  • A fight between two people.
  • The guy who gets his gun first wins.
Here's the thing, if you are by yourself... with a 200lbs person facing you. Are you REALLY going stop and try to negotiate what's going to hurt them LESS? Or are you going to do whatever you have to save yourself? Are you really going to go, hey this kid doesn't have any weapons (THAT I KNOW OF) so he's probably NOT going to hit me with his fists. No one has ever been beat to death. I'll just talk him down.

If there had been multiple officers this situation may have been a little different. MAYBE a taser would have worked but are you really going to take that chance?

This situation is still very sad all around. Sad that someone got killed, sad that peoples reaction was to call race, sad that more people reacted by creating more violence.

Regardless of all of that. My question to the black community is this:

So you're scared, you don't want this happening to your child, but what exactly are you teaching him or her? How are you perpetuating that change? Or are you still waiting on the "whites" to change their opinion? Are you teaching your kids that stealing is an acceptable way of life? Are you teaching them to RESPECT authority? Or to constantly challenge it?  What are you teaching your kids about other races? Are you still making the "white man" out to be the problem to ever situation you face in life? Is "it" ALWAYS because you are black?

Do I worry about my father or my dad? Sometimes, but not really. As long as they aren't selling drugs, robbing convenience stores, or attacking people... (aka committing a crime) they probably won't have anything to worry about.

Will they get pulled over randomly just because they are black? That possibility is definitely there. But respect goes a long way. Will the police come knocking at our door at 11:00PM because a black family moved into the neighborhood? Yes. (True Story) Will that cause me to hate and show hate towards white people/ white police officers? No.

Respectful commentary will be allowed, others will be deleted. See if you can talk about this situation without using the skin color and use facts.

May 30, 2013

.... my last post was april 10, 2013 or so my computer tells me. (oops!)
It's 11:07PM, I need to be sleeping right now, but I can't.
There is so much I want to do instead of sleeping.

I want lose myself in a good book.
I want to have clean tangle free hair.
I want my stomach to quit hurting.
I want to not have to go into work tomorrow. (That took some effort to word that correctly.)
I want to have house that doesn't stink of garlic and dog.
I want a new house all together. (In actuality)
I want to have been able to just to sit down and play the piano.
I want to keep up with my blog/Feedly/Twitter
I want these puppies to find themselves a really amazing home. ASAP.

I REALLY WANT A VACATION. FOR EVER.

The End.

Can I be perfectly honest with ya?
I sometimes envy (in the nicest sense of the word) stay-at-home-moms. I KNOW RIGHT!?! ME?! ENVYING staying at home with a house full of HUMAN CHILDREN!? What in the world. I watch them run errands in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY and muse what it be like to be able to be able to load up your car, at whatever point during the day and take your animal to the vet, because it needed to go.

I know. I know what you're thinking and it boggles my mind to.

Also:

Currently Loving all accessories gold. Now need to go get Gold Aviator Sunglasses, Gold Sandals, a Couple of Gold Belts, More Gold Hair accessories. More things with gold accents.

Thinking Out Loud: Eating

Since I've started running five weeks ago, I've started taking a lot more thought as to what I'm putting into my body, and how it will help me become a better runner. All of the sudden I'm more aware of the amount of sugar I'm consuming (which is astronomical. Everything has sugar it seems!) more aware of the amount of processed foods I'm eating, the protein I'm consuming, water intake...etc.

It takes a lot of the fun out of fast food eating and limits the amount of stuff I can just "go buy" as well.
Looking down the snack aisle at Wal-Mart was a bit depressing EVERYTHING was full of sugar, and don't get me started on my beloved juices. Apparently it does not make a great deterrent for soda.. sugar wise at least.

Since leaving for our trip to AK I've been off my game food wise and boy can I feel it. For three days straight I had nothing but fast food and junk picked up from Wal-mart. My soda intake was ridiculous. I'll admit that. Since I've been home, things haven't improved. I had a huge project to complete at work, and some other schedule changes to life, not to mention I was out of groceries and so you can guess what I turned too.

The thought of it sounded so good at first, but after consuming two pieces, I felt sick.

Nooo! Not my pizza.

The amount of grease was overwhelming.

It was at that point I knew I need to get to the store and gets some fruits and veggies into my system.
I was actually craving something naturally sweet. Craving something GREEN.

What? Who am I?

What Made Me...

What Made Me Smile
  •  Knowing that my class mate and I  will be done with our paper on time! Woot!
What made me Laugh
What made me Sad
What made me Thoughtful
  • Trying to figure out what to do with my summer, get a job? Stay with current position? Try and get a car? Trying to understand why I have been so emotional lately...
What made me Thankful
  •  Being able to come home after class and relax before heading to work, even if it is only 15-20 minutes. That I have a great roommate; and that my family is back in town.

March 4

There are times I think in more than 140 Characters...
It is rare.
I'm sitting at my computer.
Going through 20sb.net blogs.
Looking at Profiles
Clicking on this Photo
Reading Groups name
Visiting Blogs

....it feels like 85.9% of 20 something bloggers are married with kids.
20% are dating/engaged
5% Single
Does that equal 100?
Who Cares. LOL!!!

And I'm talking about in the 20-24 age range.

Just makes a girl wonder sometimes...
What am I doing wrong?
No wonder people dislike being single.
All those in their age range are married.
My best friend has been with her husband for 4 years now
And she's a year old than I am.
Two close friends got married last year, one was my age and other was "older".
Future RoomMate is dating
Just found out another friend is dating....

Am I jealous?
No.
I'm not really in any hurry to jump into the dating scene.
Its not my time yet.
I just got out on my own last year....technically anyway
I lived in my parents house for about two years without them actually being there...

I am actually very happy in my singleness
I'm only 20 for petes sake.

I really don't want to date just for the sake of dating...
What's the point the point of getting into a relationship I know won't go anywhere.
I don't know.
I do know that this.
I'm Single right now, and that's where I want to be - Natasha Bedingfield
But there are times, where I do wonder.......
What about me??
And then I look at my schedule.
