And now you know..

"So tell me about you!"
Between online dating and meeting new people through meetup, I get this question a lot.

I've come to hate this question.
For some people it may be simple.
For me, its complicated.

What exactly about me do they want to know?
(That isn't on my profile....yeah I wrote all those words for a reason!)
They already know my age, my marital status, my skin color, height, body type, religious views, political views, how many pets I have, what movies, music and books I like. AND a brief synopsis of my personality.

What more do you need?

So as I sneak my way back into the online dating world... (not particularly fast or at all really)

I've come up with a list of responses to that question. These are designed not only to inform them, but to me as to what type of person they are... and if they can not only handle, but GET my humor.

That's a huge one for me.
  • I am a really old undergrad
  • Yes I'm still working on my Bachelors
  • I'm going for a piece of paper that will get me a better job.
  • Oh you want specifics? Something business. Advertising or Management.
  • I video blog a  lot. Mostly on Snapchat (ProjectErin)
  • I was 25 before I drank alcohol (This one shocks people)
  • I can cook but don't do it much.
  • I have two dogs and three cats
  • I moved out of my parents home when I was 18
  • I moved to Knoxville to stay in the same town as my family.
  • I am super close to my family
  • I am the oldest of said family
  • My family is large and kind of a big part of my life.
  • I play the piano
  • I have a lot of random hobbies including: painting, home projects, jigsaw puzzles, baking, photography, scrapbook(ing), dog training, hiking, running, indoor rock climbing... (most recent).
  • I enjoy simply being with people I like.
  • I dislike my hair 90% of the time.
  • I have a shopping problem
  • Food Addiction:
    • Chick-fil-a
    • Pizza
    • Dr, Pepper
    • Ice Cream
  • Speaking of food I am a picky :(
  • I've got a sense of humor, you'll see me giggle at a funeral
  • I have a bad habit of quoting song lyrics for many different situations
  • You're never going to see me cry
  • I am lazy (I like to use the word "procrastinator")
  • I love road trips
  • I've only been to 20 states.
  • The furthest north I've been in New York
  • The furthest south I've been in Florida
  • The furthest west I've been will be Montana in May
  • And you can't get more "east" than North Carolina (aka my home state)
  • I hate roller-coasters, but will ride some
  • I am dramatic. Drama adds more flair to life. SO yes half the stuff I say is exaggerated. Get used to it.
  • I like playing video games
  • I am reserved until you get to know me.
  • I randomly burst into song (according to my co-workers this happens more when I'm stressed or we're busy... which could also equal stress)
  • I like to write.
  • I hate mornings
  • I love the outdoors ... in the summer
  • I love heat in general. Its never too hot for this girl.
  • I run some, but dislike it greatly.
  • Huge college football fan (GO VOLS!)
  • There is nothing stereo typical about me. "Breaking stereo types since 1989"
  • I am loyal to a fault
  • And sarcastic to a fault
  • I have a slight addiction to word games...
  • ...and i have officially run out of things to write about me.
... if there is anything else you wanna know... just ask!

What about you? What do you normally tell people you first meet?

sounds

Jump 5 blaring through my cell phones small speakers at 7AM (Google them, its been awhile since they were "cool" i know)
The high pitched squeaky bark of my friends yorkie pup visiting
The soft thump of a 15-year-old dachshund headed for the back door, and her morning relief
The subsequent thumps of human feet as they dash after her, to make sure she gets outside in time. (Old age ... aaaah )
The squeak of mattress springs as the human makes another mad dash BACK to bed, two hours till its "really" time to get up.
.....

Refrigerator doors opening and shutting
The rustle of thin worn pages
Kibble hitting metal bowls
The crunching of dog teeth
The swish of fabric being pulled on
......

The comforting sound of a "healthy engine"
Music blaring through the speakers in an effort to pump oneself up for work

 ......

The ringing of phones
The banging of doors
The requests of customers
The response of co-workers
The laughter,
The sighs
The eye rolls (... oh wait, that's not a sound!)

.....

The clink of coins hitting plastic
The swish of a mop
The locking of doors
The sighs of contentment, turned to consternation once the realization that the day, while over starts a new in the morning ...

......

The soothing sound of an audio book reader
The roar of a vacuum cleaner
The hum of a microwave
The growls, grumbles and thumps of playing puppies
.......

The high pitched squeaky bark of my friends yorkie pup protesting bed time
The squeak of a mattress spring as the human + dogs claim spaces for the night
The clicking of the lamp turning off..

And the high pitched scream of one mad little puppy.

Then silence

14 March 2013

This is where I write things like: I have words, I have lots of words, but placing those words into readable sentences feels like too much work right now.

Right now I'm grappling with figuring out how to manage what little free time I have. In ways that are productive that is.

So until I get that figured out .... it could be a bit quiet around here.

:)

Currently...

Reading: Captive Trail by Susan Page Davis

Listening To: An Audio Book

Feeling: Tired, Worn out, Sleepy

Planning: What I'll eat for the rest of the week. Halfheartedly at the very least.

Making: Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Neit. Nine

Loving: Polyvore + Pinterest!

Looking Forward To: Lunch tomorrow! Panera Bread provided by my employers! :)

I miss it.

As much as I love living in K-Town there are days when I really miss what I call my "old life." While I wouldn't have said so at the time, things were just so much simpler. I was in school with the goal to graduate from the Web Design Program, I had a nice part time job, I was raising guide dog puppies, and was active in our guide dog group. I had a great church family and life was good.

I felt like I had direction.

Then it all turned upside down.

This is not to say the move wasn't good for me, it was. But I miss the surety (at least in my mind) of life five years ago.

Right now life just feels, pointless. Well perhaps that's not the right word, but some days I get up going. What in the world am I doing? I know there is one out there, but at the moment I don't know how to find it, and all my current endeavors just leave me frustrated at the end of the day. I have a job that pays the bills, but not one I particularly enjoy, I'm stuck with a debt to pay off before I can finish my schooling, and even things such as puppy raising have lost their appeal.

Will I quit striving at any of the above? No, but at the same time I just don't feel as .... I don't even know. Words can't express how thankful I have for my week long christmas break.

I need it.

P.S ( I also miss photoshop. Gimp just doesn't cut it.)

New Glasses

One big goal I've had for this year, was to upgrade my glasses.
When we had insurance, we'd get new glasses every two years.
Needless to say without that, nothing happens..

This Tax season, I knew one of my purchases had to be glasses.
Something completely different than what I'd had before.
So when Dr. Biz.er's World promoted their Buy One Get One free deal, my friend and I jumped at the chance to get cheaper glasses.

I thought I'd picked out glasses that were completely different that my old ones, but weeks later, and people I see everyday STILL haven't recognized that I got new specs, I would say that was a complete and udder fail.

Yes I just said udder.
It was coming out that way, and since I'm all about being real, I just left it.

Cause in real life I have my own dialect.

Things like elovution - other wise known as evolution. Yeah.
I'm so sick of having to correct myself, I just leave it, and let people figure out what I meant.

But I digress.

Do I love my new lenses? Well.... not particularly. I couldn't afford to get non-glare lenses so the glare in these are horrible. And they are a lot bigger than what I thought, when trying them on.

But considering I only paid around $50 for them. I'm keeping them.

Before
Luckily for me, getting glasses shouldn't be a huge deal from now on, with places such as Zenni Optical around... $16.95 for a pair of prescription sunglasses? Yeah. We should be fine.

Notes about my blogging style

  1. I am human.
  2. I am NOT an english major.
  3. In fact I really hate being grammaticality correct.
  4. Sometimes I think faster than I can type.
  5. Thus resulting in typos such as: their instead of there, wear or where instead of were or we're.
  6. Sometimes I leave out words.
  7. Sometimes I wonder if people really want to read what I have to write.
  8. Other times I really could care less.
  9. Sometimes I go back and re-read my posts about a gazzillion times...AFTER I've published it.
  10. Sometimes I go back and edit my posts a gazzillion times after I publish.
  11. Never have I taken a post down due to grammer or spelling errors.
  12. I can't spell.
  13. Defiantly can't spell
  14. I mean I can but apparently I can't.
  15. I have made an attempt to stop using spell checker as well.
  16.  Sometimes I have to go look up a word I want to use, to make sure I'm using it in the write way.
  17. Sometimes I start writing posts and then completely forget the point of it.
  18. Sometimes I can't figure out how to end a post.
  19. Every time though I am just me.
  20. I just wanted you to know that.
  21. Oh. Btw. I meant "right" not "Write".
  22. Case in point.

Confessions of a College Student

♪♫These are my confessions....♪♫
I made little music notes! I'm so proud of myself.
Who sings that song anyway? It feels a little dated to my ear..oh well.
How does the saying go? "Confession is good for the soul?"
Up Front Honesty.
From Me.

Holiday Cards. I don't get it. I really don't. Don't get me wrong I will not refuse to take your card should you give one too me. "Oh a Christmas Card?! I don't need this! HERE! TAKE IT! NO. NO! JUSTTAKETHESTUPIDCARBACKWOMAN." I'll keep it ...but WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH IT AFTER THAT?!  Let it collect dust? Clutter my fridge up with them? Which, is kind of hard to do as I don't have many magnets. Can you even recycle the paper its printed on?! Now that I think about it..i don't really get cards period, waste of money imo. Will someone please fill me in?!  Wait..I do have to clarify, I'm talking about the cards without photos..I do like the family portraits. And would you believe it my parents even got one done this year...of JUST THEM! Seriously!? What are we? Chopped liver? lol.
No I don't mean that mom. I'm just kidding!!

Sometimes I feel like a single parent. There I said it out loud. You've all seen the women with their little dogs, dressed up in clothes, proclaiming how their dogs are their babies. Psht, I've worked at daycares and had to do REDICULOUS things to their babies in the name of "taking care of them". No. When I say my dogs are my kids, I'm referring the the high amounts of responsibility you take on when caring for three dogs by.your.self.

I can say this now, but living with my family (despite the constant griping, complaining and lack of participation from the afore mentioned group) was so.much.easier than being on my own. Granted, at the time I was working at a dog daycare, so I really wasn't doing much work in reguards to exercising my dogs. And....I only had two at the time; but I never was overly concerned about how long I was away from the house, when I came home..there was always someone there, to at least let her(s) out to potty.

Even last year, when I was caring for as many as five dogs at a time, was easier simply because I worked from home and didn't feel too bad leaving.

Now...now that I have a job that is not denying me access (which I have the right by law) with my guide dog puppy, school that is 35minutes away, and two other dogs to care for.

I can't travel like I'd want too, I can't just stay out to all hours if I wanted to, I can't spend the night at friends houses..unless they are dog friendly,

I've had this conversation with people before, and those who don't own dogs, or who don't own multiple dogs, or who live with other dog loving people.....don't understand. They roll their eyes, or snicker, or look down on  the dog obsessed girl. They say  things like "Erin you know you're going to have to look for a guy one day and not a DOG!" And I grit my teeth and attempt to smile, while inwardly screaming "REALLY! OM.Goodnes really!? Thanks for letting me know cause you know, I just wanted to live the rest of my days with my dogs."

The continual "finding what I want my blog to be" blog post are starting to annoy me. Especially coming from a generation, who, at this point in their lives really aren't going to have the next "up and coming" blog of all time. I'm just being honest here! There are exceptions to  every rule, but really at [insert preteen/teen age here] you aren't going to be the next Pioneer Woman. Don't worry about posting for other people, post for yourself! Would I love to have a booming blog....? I honestly can say I don't think so, my blog is pretty much a place for me to rant and ramble on about my life because my family doesn't care/is tired of hearing about it. Cause you guys care.so.much! Not.  So my advice to these young bloggers, is blog just to blog, don't dedicate your life to a space on the internet that might not even be there in 10 years, unless you print it out as a book.

The End.

miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters
{1} It was cold this morning. Like my neighbors/friend/roommates sister called to let us know that fact, which of course I'd already discovered as I ran the dogs out for the morning potty break. Yep! According to the radio it was 46 this morning. And as I look at my computer it says its.....gee only 54!!

{2} Oh this weather fills me with nostalgia. I'll admit, there are times when I miss my family deeply. The way we were before, together in one house, busy, but still close to each other. Now its like we're in two different worlds. Its not bad, but I miss the carefree feeling. Amazing what three little years will change!

{3} While I'm not a fan of fall weather at.all. I am a fan of fall food, and clothes! Hence my sudden obsession for new boots. I practically live in boots during the fall/winter. For now I have three pairs in my collection.

{4} Speaking  of boots... I went with boots #1 cause the other boots I really wanted (#4) were out of stock, and I can't remember what was up with boots #2. But rest assured, if I stick to my budget this month, I will reward my self with another pair!

{5} I've also revamped (as in re-formatted not redid) my 101 N 1001 list. I'm up to 30 out of 101 pretty good. But defiantly need to step it up! This week I'm working on my daily water intake and perhaps, getting up earlier than I normally do. *gulp*

{6} New recipes for this month will be "Baked Potato Soup" and "Spinach and Artichoke Dip". Both are favorites of mine at O'Charley's and Applebees, and I'm dying to see if I can recreate a version that I like! Adding to my list of things I can make as well. And checking off another part of my 101-N-1001!

{7} I haz cute puppies.

{8} Bad news is...looks like I"m headed to court after all for my citations. oh wait. I didn't tell you about those did I? Oops! Well a little thing really, expired tag and no proof of insurance. Cause in my home-state, they never asked for proof of insurance, so we never knew to carry it. But I got two of them in like three weeks. #notcool But it was recommended that I show them I have (will) taken care of my tag ($60 for a STICKER!!!!! AH) and did have insurance at the date of the accident/ticket and PERHAPS i can get off with just paying the court fees ($96.50 seriously!?!)

{9} What a horrible football weekend this was!!! What a stupid loss for the Vols!! Then my Titans failed me as well. I give up.

Debates and Debating

Fun fact about me. I like to debate just for the sake of debating, I find it fun, to try and get people to think my way.  But I get frustrated, since most who argue with me, don't want to hang in until we get the matter settled. Most want to change the topic or what have so as not to get angry.

Me? Not so much.

While I'll never raise my voice, or start calling names, I do like to make sure my point is heard and that if we don't agree, we can both agree on that fact, and still go away sisters/friends/associates/whatever. (granted I don't offend easily so..that helps too I suppose)

However, I have discovered over the weekend, I will NOT debate via written text anymore. For one thing, if you aren't on IM you have to wait until the other party, comes back to their computer to "refute" your statements. For two, if you are using a medium such as, Twitter, then you have to make sure you know what the person is replying to you about, before commenting, and three you cannot read the persons tone/facial expression/body language via text.

So yeah, I got into ANOTHER Twitter debate the other day (I've gotten into several). I commented on something one of my followers said, then deleted feeling they would take it wrong.  But the other party, somehow still saw it, thought I was talking a bout a recent tweet, due to not going back and actually seeing what I was commenting on. So my @mentions tab was BLOWN UP with snide comments about how I was uneducated, and I needed to quit informing others with my misinformation. I actually had to laugh at first, until I realized this person, seriously thought I had no clue what I was talking about.

I started to get a little up tight when I kept getting tweets telling me that I had a right to remain uneducated.

Excuse me!? PersononTwittersay WHAT?! (yes that would be a Hannah Montana line)

But I knew, said party really didn't know what I knew, so I couldn't get offended, however I was amazed at how easily people are willing to call names, and demean people when they can't see them face to face!

So here's a tip. If you feel strongly about a subject, and you want your debater to see your point of view...Don't call them names, don't make them feel as if they are less than a person for feeling the way they do, remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if said person does not wish to be "educated" in the way you think they ought too, then be mindful of that fact. Don't use sarcasm, ESPECIALLY in text as it WILL NOT be taken right.

And the most important thing is: Make sure you have your facts straight before laying them out there.

Well ok, another thing would be to remember who your audience is.

If you can't do that, then don't debate!

While I was indeed more knowledgeable then the person originally thought, I was so turned off with their manner and attitude that I had a hard time, admitting that some of what they were saying I actually agreed with; and was more willing to side with the side they were against.

Then I come across another article, which is nit-picking someone else's point of view as well. Its like seriously are you trying to push people away or bring them around to your way of thinking!? They were arguing that the other person, "didn't know how to argue" while they were just sitting there ripping them to shreds. Can anyone say DOUBLE STANDARD!?

The Bible Says it best in this situation:

Proverbs 15:A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

But wow, this was a random topic I know.

In conclusion, if you want to debate with me, that's fine, but keep it civil...no keep it POLITE, don't allow your blood pressure to rise,  remember everyone doesn't have to agree with you and for pete's sake, don't call names!

Here's to having a good week!

Caffeine

Hello.

I am alive still.

Don't you love it how I post a blog about getting comments and then draw a complete BLANK on what to post on next? I do have a good excuse and its that we're in the middle of our annual church camp meeting, and if I'm not a work, school, or walking the dogs, I'm there. Pretty much getting up at 7ish and going to bed around 1230ish

Which means I'm exhausted. I can barely think straight, I'm stressing over little things and I'm So.READY for this week to be over. I'm chugging caffeine like its water, which is killing me since I'd gotten down to 1-2 cans a week (not DAILY! BIG IMPROVEMENT), and was feeling so much better.

One of my 101 n 1001

91. Give Up Soda for a week (7/7 days)

Would you believe, me a caffeine addict did it? I cannot remember the last time I felt so good. I had energy that was all natural, I was tired at night and could go to bed early, because I could listen to my body! The next week, I was back in the familiar, roll out at 730am (the time I'm supposed to be leaving) and dash to work, and once there purchase a Dr.Pepper to "keep me going." However, I do not like how it makes me feel, and after camp meeting is over, I do plan on working on eating breakfast before work, and getting healthy snacks while I'm there.

AboutMe-Caffeine a scrapbook page talking about my journey to addiction to caffeine. I show two photos of  a can of Dr.Pepper surrounded by some buttons and words

A little "back" info on this page:
One of the things I decided to to tackle this year, was doing a scrapbook all about me. I've tons of scrapbook pages for my puppies, but not much about me. I came across this challenge on Hodge Podge Art to create a "All About Me" album going through the alphabet. This page is "C" for me.

Getting To Know You

Getting to know YOU

1. If you accidently knick a car in a parking lot..Do you leave a note or do you get the heck out of there?

Ok so what happened was, two of my co-workers were standing behind my car, as I was trying to pull out one day. They saw me and didn't move. So in an effort to avoid hitting them, I cut it close and BUMPED. As in my car touched her car, another co-workers car. I was rolling, so I knew there wasn't any damage. I get back on Monday and my email is blown up with "pictures of the incident" and other things such as, I didn't want to turn in a report too you. What!? Say WHAT!? Anyway its all kind of blown over, since there really wasn't any scratches to the car.

2. Love your body or plastic surgery?

There is no way I'm going to let some man mess up what God has already done for me. End of story.

3. What about your favorite blog(s) continues to drive you back?

Oh geez. I follow over 500 blogs, there is no way I could pick out one favorite.

4. What percent of your blog is fake just to make your life seem more interesting than it really is?

There are days, when I really wish it was made up. And other days I wish I could make up something that was more interesting. But I don't. Takes too much brain juice to do all that.

5. If you had to give up one type of meat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Cow - I say cow because I'm including well...most of it except for the steak parts. Tongue, Veal...etc..
I saw a tongue in Wal-Mart the other day. So.GROSS. You could like see the little like taste bud things and the muscle that was holding the tougue in th...*gags*

6. How often to you eat out?

1-2 times weekly. And by eat out I mean fast food.

7. Skinny jeans or boot cut jeans?

Neither

8. If you caught your spouse cheating would you forgive, divorce, or plan your kill?

Um.......knee jerk reaction would be divorce, but it would depend on the guy I suppose.

A Wee bit of Me

Blog Meme this week, is brought to you by myleighashley.com

{one} what website do you spend the most time on?
.Probably would be Google Reader, as I normally have least 150 blogs to go through DAILY. I have to find so sort of WiFi if I'm out of town or I'd never get through all them if I don't do it daily. ...though I do have to admit that I'll only read the most recent and just "mark as read" everything else. Hey you try reading through 300 constantly updating blogs and we'll see what YOU do. ::grins::

{two} what's the furthest you've ever travelled?
New York City. I don't like traveling, truthfully and don't plan on going out of the country if I can help it...though its not without its appeal...
{three} what's your guilty pleasure tv show?

{four} if you had to give up one favorite food, what would be the hardest?
Ice Cream. I make specific trips to the grocery store if my ice cream is out of stock.

{five} if you could become any fictional character, who would you be?
Oh my word...I have no clue!

{six} what's your favorite season of the year?
SUMMER! Heat, Sweat, Bugs and ALL. I have to many dogs, and have had to potty train too many puppies in the winter time, to even slightly think of enjoying any other season. Plus I HATE giving up my flip-flops. *sigh*

{seven} what's your biggest phobia?
Elevators. I guess that would make me slightly claustrophobic, but I cannot ride one of those small boxes by myself. I have tried, a couple of times, and I had to run out before the doors closed. I am throughly freaked out by the thought of getting stuck with No way out.

{eight} would you rather swim in a pool or the ocean?
If I knew how to swim, I would MUCH rather been a pool.

{nine} what did you eat for breakfast today?
Nothing.

{ten} if you could only listen to one song for the next month, which song would it be?
Everything by Micheal  Buble'  - And yes I'd probably never listen too it again afterwards.

Oh Where oh where has my motivation gone....

IF anyone sees my motivation please, send him back too me. He got off of his leash and is running around here somewhere.

Fact about Erin - I like to plan, I do like to doing things impromptu...but its hard, even if I really didn't have anything else planned. Every weekend, I spend at least an hour writing my to-do list for the week, making sure I know what bills I'll need to pay that week, going through my kitchen and making my grocery list..

I like to know what I need to do each day, so that it has more of a chance to get done, I set goals for myself for the week that I want to strive for. My calender is color coded, my cell phone has a task list to remind me of things I need to do...my closet was arranged in such a way, that I could get up and were the "next thing in line" according to type... I have to know what I need to do next or nothing will get done. I DO.NOT. Like doing something that was not scheduled. You wanna hang out? Let me know two days before. You need me too do something let me know at least 24 hours before hand. I will say I have gotten much better about this but it would take me some serious prayer so that I could do the task thrown at me, with a good attitude.

Writing this down...that feels a little crazy even too me.

I'm blaming the weather..but for the last couple of weeks, my motivation to plan has flown the coop, and is probably sunning its self on a beach somewhere. My desire to do homework, clean my house, get up, read, write, blog, plan...has diminished.
Its actually been kind of freeing not too have too abide by a list...

......but I also have gotten absolutely nothing done...and am paying for that.

So yeah if you see the ol' Mojo please send him back too me.

Thankkkssss

Erin Leigh ~

Fill In the Blank Friday

~See More At: The Little Things We Do~

When I'm nervous.....most of the time, I just get lots of butterflies, bees, and flies that take over my body.

2. My favorite item in my closet ....has to be my new coat.

3. Cleaning MY house is my favorite thing to do when I need to relax.

4. My favorite childhood memory is Oh? Do I officially qualify as being out of that yet? Cool! But here's the deal. I can barely remember what I was about to do, before I started working this and trying to think back that far hurts my head. Hence why I do photography. Picture = 1000 words

5. Something you may not know about me is...I used to be really shy

6. A true friend is trustworthy, and honest.

7. Something I hope people think of when they think of me...as a really nice person, fun person.

2010 Goals

There is nothing like a new year, to make you, one rethink your old year, and most of the time, want to do better.
So Although I started in June, I am officially #failing and going to redo my 101 in 1001 list. I think the biggest problem with it was, setting my sights too high, instead of starting small.
You would think as a dog trainer I would have that ingrained in my brain by now, but alas I don’t always equate what I’m doing with my dogs to myself.
Another thing is, I’ve learned a lot about myself, even since June, what things I can do, how to start new things, what not to start things like that.I hate hate, hate, hate, hate, stopping in the middle of things; so starting this over is killing me, even though it’s JUST a list.

A big change I've made, is the length of time I gave myself to do things. Instead of attempting things for a year, we’re tackling just 3-6 months at a time, which I believe will increase the likely hood of it getting done. (Have I mentioned i'm a bit ADD?)

Another #fail with the last list, was that I was grasping at straws trying to come up with 101things I wanted to accomplish..so a lot of the things I wrote down wasn't things I actually really ever had intentions of doing..this time? I've already started at least 5 of them....no make that six as of today!

Anyway I'm looking forward to tackling this!
